Outdoor Drain Covers - How Covering Outdoor Drains Can Protect the Environment From Pollution

Ever wonder where the water goes during a heavy rainfall? Down the drain! And from there, it eventually gets into our ground water and into the environment. But you can do something about that with the help of outdoor drain covers.
Here's what happens:
When it rains, all that dried-up oil and the chemicals that have been dripping from cars and machinery is suddenly dissolved in the water and flushed down the drains. And where does it go from there? Sooner or later, it goes into our water supply.
And that's a bad thing. We need to protect our water supply and the environment from those chemicals and other pollutants. But how can we do that?
The solution:
The solution? Outdoor drain covers. Before it starts to rain, cover those drains up and the water, well, it will accumulate elsewhere.
Of course that's not a permanent solution. And naturally it's not all there is to it. After all, the water needs to go somewhere, so here's what is even better than simply closing those drains:
Add drain filter inserts. They're very smart gadgets that allow the water to flow through while filtering out the junk and polluting chemicals.
And they can handle a surprisingly large amount of chemicals before they become saturated.
Another use for outdoor drain covers
Storm water run-off is not the only source of pollution outdoors, and stopping it from going down the drain is not the only use of drain covers.
Imagine that you have a chemical spill or an oil spill, and there's a drain nearby. The chemical liquid could go right down the drain. That is definitely something to avoid.
And here's why they work so well for that purpose: They're made out of high quality polyurethane, which means they're highly resistant to almost any chemicals they might get in contact with
How outdoor drain covers can come in handy in ANY spill
So what do you do? Have a drain cover seal and spill stopper handy -- they are now available as reversible outdoor drain covers (also usable indoors). So you don't have to lose valuable time trying to figure out which side is up -- you just slap the thing on the drain and nothing will get through that seal.
Then you can work on containing the rest of the spill, possibly by arranging a spill berm around it, and finally, you can clean it up with absorbents.
So outdoor drain covers can protect the environment not just during storms but also every day. If you're handling chemicals outdoors, definitely have some outdoor drain covers handy at all times so you can put them to use the moment there's a drain to protect.
