The BP oil situation is extremely unfortunate, no doubt, especially if you are a beach go'er or a Pelican. The Obama Administration wants to set up a victim's fund, and British Petroleum will aside tens of billions of dollars to pay for the cleanup. Apparently, the Obama Administration is using the media to trash the brand name of BP, and take down their stock price. They are having a war against BP in the media, rather than working with BP to focus on the problem.
Apparently, this Administration will do anything to protect its reputation, even when it's wrong, or in this case incompetent in my opinion. The reality is that British Petroleum is extremely strong company financially, it could write a check tomorrow for 20, 35, or even $50 billion. It takes an act of Congress for the US government to come up with that kind of money, and it could take a month, and 3000 pages of stipulations, in an omnibus bill to make it happen. So as they demand BP to show immediate results, one has to laugh.
Why is it that the United States federal government has to borrow money anytime it wants to pay for something, and it seems to think that British Petroleum is going to go bankrupt over this oil spill cleanup? Someone in the Obama Administration can't count, and Tea Party folks (those solid Americans who are upset with our Government's nonsense) would agree by the way the Administration is no longer spending Billions, but Trillions, perhaps they don't understand commas and decimal points?
How dare the Obama Administration put forth the idea that British Petroleum is on the verge of bankruptcy because of this oil spill, when the federal government is operating basically a "Ponzi Scheme" (by strict definition) called; Medicare and Social Security. In fact, the federal government of the United States of America needs to put its own house in order, before assuming, and calling one of the words largest corporations insolvent.
It seems to me that President Barack Obama thinks that everything can be fixed with a lawsuit, and this is typical lawyer thinking in Washington DC, but that's not how oil spills get cleaned up. It takes leadership, executive decision-making, and a conscientious effort to clean up an oil spill. Lawsuits only drag things out, cause parties not to talk to each other, and end up costing both sides a lot of money.
My advice to Barack Obama is to stop making speeches, stop doing political posturing, stop the name-calling, and stop blaming the Bush administration for the oil spill. This is his time to shine, this is his time to either put forth solid leadership, or get stuck in the tar pit. Please consider all this.
